Ruths Birthday Quilt

My friends Ruth and Ray were both 60 this year, so I made them this quilt, it was Ray’s birthday in Jan but he had to wait till Ruth’s birthday which was on the 18th March. I made it as a surprise, and they were certainly that.!
This is the quilt in place in Ruth and Ray’s new bedroom.

Diana’s Wallhanging

One of our group Diana made this, it started as a wall hanging but ended up a cushion cover, for a first attempt at appliqué I think its brilliant, it looks much different now as Diana has embroidered detail on all the flowers and petals, I must get her to bring it back so you can see the finished article.

New Cushion Covers

I decided we needed new cushion covers in the lounge, thought this design would be easier than it was, saw the picture in a French magazine, but there were no instructions. It took me all morning to make one cover in this design, only 8 more covers to go.

Group Quilt

As many of you will know, I run a small patchwork group here in France, when a new lady, or gent, as we have a couple of men in the group, joins, I get them to make a block using haxagons, as this is a fairly simple way to introduce them to patchwork.

All the fabric we have used was given by my very generous Mother-in-law Violet Wright and Violets good friend Kathleen Slinger.

We have now started to assemble the quilt top, the picture is where we are so far.
When the quilt is finished we will donate it to the local commune where we have our class, which is Bulat Pestivien in Côtes-d’Armor, Brittany. We hope they will then raffle or auction the quilt off for charity

The Fabric Lady

Do you ever watch QNN? if not I suggest you watch it now.
At 9am and 9pm tomorrow, Friday 26th April, there is is the best documentary on it is about a lady called Penny Sisto, I don’t know if you have heard of her? she makes the most amazing picture quilts I have ever seen, and uses very emotive subjects, I have watched a small bit of it, but have been waiting for it to replay to watch the whole thing, she has had the most horrendous start in life and over come it, to be the the most inspirational person I have seen in a long while, I do hope you will find time to watch it, if not keep your eye out for her appearing again.
